Ready to Get Underway

By , on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

Date/Time: Wednesday, September 3, 2014 Location: Ketchikan Weather: Scattered clouds, breezy Plan: Prepare to leave Ketchikan tomorrow.

The weather outlook is good, and it’s time to head south on our journey to Puget Sound, but loose ends have kept us for a few extra days. Today we completed the vehicle repair and are ready to […]

Location: Ketchikan Weather: Rain, wind, cool

It’s Labor Day today, and the weather is a reminder that fall is nearly here. The silver salmon have been in the creeks for a few weeks, and deer season is open. It’s also time for us to depart for Puget Sound.

By , on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

Today we tied up loose ends so we can depart Haines in the morning; cars and trailers are farmed out to friends who will assist with transportation when the time comes, post office keys were turned in, and the boat was provisioned and readied for sailing.

Unfortunately, the weather outlook does not look favorable. With […]

Masthead Chores

By , on Saturday, July 28th, 2012

Roger enjoys a new perspective…

Today’s trip up the mast was more of a reconnaissance than a maintenance trip. We thought we were going to straighten the radio antenna and perform a quick repair on the tricolor light but, as usual, weather and corrosion have taken their toll on the equipment.

The radio […]

The Next Adventure…

By , on Monday, May 21st, 2012

We’ve done this before. Ten years ago we sold our house in Ketchikan and moved onto our 35-foot sailboat to cruise the Alaskan and Canadian inside passage for a few years. After three years of this nomadic lifestyle, we felt the need for a home base–and we settled in Haines, Alaska.

Now, six years later, […]
